Always start with a red wine and long farewells. Indeed, as I started out on An Endless Summer this was never more so.
Ending 17 years as Managing Director of a business and hearing the comments by colleagues left me to gain an insight that while it may seem lonely at the top, it is certainty full of friends on the way out. I am still very much involved in (and love) the business (this has already helped me feel renewed) and producing creations in events, just not in the day-to-day operations.
As I arrived at Sydney International Airport I watched an amazing sunrise against the clouds and tail of the plane that would start my adventure. It was simply one of the best I have seen. No photo sorry…but I am not sorry about that, as I just sat and watched it…no emails, no mobile and just plenty of time (and a glass of vino – getting into the local language and all). I hadn’t even left the country and had the realisation that the only currency that we should covet is – time.
I am glad I took time to say my good goodbyes…as while I cannot wait to start An Endless Summer there is a cloud of bitter sweetness leaving what I have…I take solace in the quote that the return makes the farewell…so I hope everyone will be ready to party (!) when I get back.
